Black Rose is Sparkman & Stephens Design #5, the first 6-metre designed by Olin Stephens. Many more successful designs were to follow, but Black Rose  began over 60 years of 6-metre development.

This vessel is the very first of 37 “sixes” that Sparkman & Stephens constructed over the years, and she was launched the year the firm incorporated.

Very shortly after she was built, Olin Stephens, along with his brother Rod Stephens, was at the helm of this very boat, in the International Six Metre Championship in Bermuda.

In her long life, she has had a number of owners and been known as Kid and Thalia. In 1970, she was bought by Ed Bombard, her currrent owner.
